Welcome and Introduction: The librarian welcomes families and provides a brief overview of the night's activities.(Tonight’s theme is centered around the importance of kindness) Tonight you will explore books that teach empathy and kindness: books that teach the importance of compassion, understanding, and kindness towards others.

Book Read-Aloud: The librarian selects a book and reads it aloud to the group, encouraging participation and interaction. Tonight’s book is Have You Filled a Bucket Today by Carol McCloud. After reading, we will discuss what it means to fill your bucket and students and parents can share some examples.

Activity related to the book: After the read-aloud, families can participate in an activity related to the book, such as a word search, crossword puzzle, or coloring page.  For this literacy night, tables will have small buckets on them.  With their family, they will think of ways that they can fill each other’s buckets or their friend’s buckets. They will write it down, and put it in the bucket.  The librarian will combine them all into one bucket at the end.  At the  end of the night, the librarian will pull 3 out of the bucket for door prizes.

Free Reading Time: Families are encouraged to explore the library's collection and find books they are interested in reading together. Books that promote kindness will be on display, and those will be available in the library for students to check out. The librarian is available to answer questions and make recommendations.

Wrap-up and Conclusion: The librarian thanks families for participating and encourages them to continue reading together at home. The night ends with a snack and a chance for families to share their favorite books.
